The Maricopa County Early Education Birth to Five teaching and family support team promotes active learning in the infant-toddler classrooms by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate individualized experiences. Creating a safe and nurturing environment in which zero through three- year old children can enhance perceptual, motor, and physical development, language and literacy skills, cognitive development, approaches to learning, social and emotional development and relationships, developing age-appropriate social and self helps skills. This includes planning and participating in parent education, parent involvement, family support activities, and collaboration with Birth to Five site team members.

Minimum education and/or experience:
Educator: High School Diploma or GED and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential that included specific training and/or coursework in infant and toddler care; or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or an equivalent degree in family studies or social work which included 18 credit hours in early childhood education (as evidenced by a transcript); and two (2) years of experience teaching in a licensed childcare or pre-k setting.

Educator (Bachelor's): Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or another equivalent or higher, completed post-secondary degree and 18 credit hours in early childhood education, child development or infant/toddler development (as evidenced by a transcript), and two (2) years of experience teaching in a licensed childcare or pre-k setting.

Completion of supervised student teaching in an early childhood setting may be considered for required experience.

Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements:
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license. Successful candidates must complete a background investigation prior to hire and secure a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Successful candidates must also complete a medical exam that includes screening for Tuberculosis (TB), as required by Federal and State regulations, to be free of communicable disease, and must have received the following vaccinations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) and Tetanus if not current, to assure no significant risk exists to the health or safety of others. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler's must be obtained within six (6) weeks of hire.

Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish may be required for some positions.

Early child developmental patterns
Developmentally appropriate practices
Behavior modification theories and practices related to early childhood development
Head Start, federal and state child care licensure regulations
Ability to:
Foster children's social/emotional development
Plans classroom experiences that meet the different developmental stages, interests, temperaments, learning styles, languages, and cultural backgrounds of the children
Integrates children with disabilities into the classroom experiences
Plans a balanced daily program of child initiated and adult directed activities and individual, small, and large group activities.
Administer CPR and First Aid when needed.
